History

Osprey Group began life as one publishing imprint, Osprey Publishing. With 2,000 books in print, Osprey Publishing's illustrated series books provide a definitive resource for military history enthusiasts all over the world. Osprey is one of the few publishing imprints where the brand is instantly recognisable and respected for its authority, attention to detail and comprehensiveness.

In 2007 Osprey acquired Shire Publications from its founder-owner John Rotheroe. Shire shares the series publishing model with Osprey and its history and nostalgia books sell on merchandising spinners in bookshops and museums across the UK.

In 2010 Osprey acquired Angry Robot from HarperCollins. Formed in 2008 and with its first books publishing in 2009, Angry Robot aims to provide innovative science fiction and fantasy books in all formats everywhere.

In 2011 Shire acquired Old House Books and Maps, a facsimile publisher.
